86-year old Dr. Thomas Herbert Gootee of Jasper passed away Tuesday at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

Dr. Gootee began his professional career in 1953 as a doctor for Memorial Hospital in Jasper and also served as a primary care physician for the Saint Meinrad Archabbey for 25 years.  In 1960 he and his brother Dr. Francis Gootee opened their medical clinic at the corner of Fifth and Clay streets in Jasper, from which he practiced 45 of his 54 years in medicine.

He is survivied by his wife

Margaret Carriere of Covington, LA

Jane Nelson of Charlevoix, MI

Anne Heyneker of Winston-Salem, NC

and Ellen Tamura of Bloomington

Two Sons,

Thomas Gootee of Jasper

and James Gootee of Carmel

Two Brothers Three Sisters, Eight Grandchildren and Three Great-Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for 86-year old Dr. Thomas Herbert Gootee of Jasper will be held at 10 am Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The VFW Post #673 in Jasper will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2 till 8 pm Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to  Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper,  St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Saint Meinrad Archabbey.
