The failure of an underground feeder line at Jasper’s north substation at 30th and Mill streets was responsible for an early morning power outage today that affected an estimated 250 households.

Officials with the Jasper Electric Utility say the failure that took place just before 6 am was caused by a line installed in 1983.

The outage was centered in an area around Mill Street from 13th to 30th streets, as well as subdivisions west of Newton Street along 36th Street and in the Portersville Road area.

Electric utility personnel who isolated the short and flipped switches that tied the affected areas to another circuit had power restored just after 6:30 this morning.
