Northeast Dubois mascot Eugene the Jeep has been eliminated from the USA Today’s national competition for best mascot.

The Jeep placed third in the regional competition, with just over 2-million votes, which was just over 17 percent of the total votes garnered by the nine schools in the region.

Meqanwhile the Centralia (Ill.) High School Orphans came out on top with more than double the Jeep’s votes. The Orphans had nearly 5 and a half million votes, or 43 and a half percent of the total.

In the first round of the competition among five Indiana schools, the Jeep had garnered 52 percent of the total votes cast. The regional round ended Wednesday.

The national winner will receive $2,000 for its athletic department.
