A Loogootee man was killed in a one vehicle accident early Saturday night in Martin County, about four and a half miles north of  the Martin-Dubois County line.

The driver of the vehicle involved, 19-year old Nathaniel Schuetz of Loogootee, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Martin County Road 650S, also known as Alfordsville Road, west of U.S. 231. S at about 7:35 pm.

The Martin County Sheriff’s department says three passengers, 19-year old Colten Davis, 18-year old Dirk Fahey, and 20-year old Corbin Wildman, all of Loogootee, were injured but were able to exit the vehicle on their own.

Members of the Haysville Volunteer Fire Department were called to help extricate Schuetz from the car.

No word was available on the conditions of those injured.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, which police said is still under investigation.

The Air Evac Lifeteam, the Alfordsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, the Martin County Coroner’s Office, Martin County Emergency Medical Services and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services all assisted at the scene.
