Northeast Dubois’s 77-year old mascot Eugene the Jeep fought it’s way to a victory  yesterday as the Indiana representative in USA TODAY’s High School Sports Best Mascot Contest.

As one of 51 state winners, the Northeast Dubois mascot will advance to the second round of voting, where contestants will be divided among six regions. The regional round will begin today and ends next Thursday March 14.

The national winner will receive $2,000 for its athletic department. Second place will be awarded $1,000, third $500, fourth $250 and fifth $100.
