A groundbreaking ceremony is set for Monday morning for a new recreational boulevard that will extend from the Jasper train depot to Third Avenue.

The Redevelop Old Jasper Action Coalition is hosting the groundbreaking event at the depot beginning at 10 am.

The stamped concrete boulevard will have a semicircular wall, seating on the east and west sides, light posts along the railroad tracks on the south side and decorative banisters and chains to discourage people from walking on the tracks. The project is being funded by a donation from German American Bank.

Initial plans for the boulevard were announced last July.  ROJAC officials hope to have the boulevard completed by this year’s Jasper Strassenfest to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary. This year’s Strassenfest is set for August 1st through the 4th.
