The Indiana Department of Transportation says rising waters as a result of this weekend’s rainfall have caused the closure of State Road 145 from State Road 64 in Birdseye to Interstate 64 at Siberia.
INDOT says this closure will remain in effect until waters recede. INDOT is advising motorists to use caution around these areas of high water.
Of course when encountering a flooded roadway, drivers are urged to turn around and not drive through standing water. According to the National Weather Service, most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Six inches of standing water is enough to cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
