The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department took advantage of a $1,495 grant from the Substance Abuse Council of Dubois County to purchase five new portable breath testers.

The testers are used in the field during stops of drivers who are possibly impaired before such a driver is taken to a police station for a breath test on a certified breath testing instrument.

Sheriff’s officials say two of the grant-funded testers went to new deputies and the remaining three replaced older units the department has had in service for more than 15 years.
