Last night, the Huntingburg City Council officially passed an ordinance that will increase parking fines in the city.
Overtime parking is now a 10 dollar fine, parking violations are now 20 dollar fines, and parking in a handicap space is a 50 dollar fine. The new fines match state guidelines for each of the respective violations.
Huntingburg mayor Denny Spinner says the new ordinance finally gives police a tool to crack down on parking violators.
Also last night, the council heard reports from Huntingburg Chamber Executive Director Nick Stevens on recent events and chamber activities in the city, including last weekend’s Garden Gate Jazz, Art, Wine, and Craft Beer Festival. Spinner says the opportunity to showcase the city is big for tourism.
Spinner says he senses a strong community spirit in light of good turnouts at recent events.
