Jasper High School Senior Whitaker Wins Lilly Scholarship

A Jasper High School senior was selected for a four-year. full-tuition scholarship as the Dubois County Community Foundation’s 2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

Ethan Whitaker, the son of Richard and Miriam Whitaker, will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice plus a 900 dollar yearly stipend for required books and equipment. Whitaker was 1 of 142 scholarship winners across the State of Indiana.

Whitaker has been accepted to Purdue University and plans to major in Aerospace Engineering.

The DCCF Scholarship Oversight Committee submitted the name of their nominee and alternates to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI), the statewide scholarship administrator for the Lilly Endowment Community Selection Program. ICI is a non-profit corporation representing 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit private colleges and universities across Indiana.

This scholarship is part of an initiative to help Hoosier kids reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among the lowest in the nation in percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor’s degree.
