Last night, the North Spencer School Board met to discuss future building renovations, field trip approvals, and athletic facility improvements. However, the biggest item on the agenda: teacher retirements.

Seven teachers retired from the North Spencer School Corporation, including former Hall of Fame football coach Bob Clayton, who was an English and P.E. teacher for Heritage Hills High School.

North Spencer Superintendent Dan Scherry says it will be hard to replace the knowledge that all of the outgoing teachers brought to the table.

Scherry says they will hire two people from the outside to replace a couple of the outgoing teachers and the rest could be done by shuffling other into teaching positions. Scherry says it all depends on the pool of applicants for the open jobs.

Scherry says the school board also approved upgrades to the Heritage Hills high school gymnasium. Upgrades would include replacing old bleachers and resurfacing the gym floor.
