One person was injured in a car vs semi accident on the west side of Jasper early this morning.

Jasper Police say 20-year-old Shayna Grubb of Winslow was traveling eastbound on State Road 56 just west of St. Charles Street just before 5:45 am when police say Grubb fell asleep at the wheel. Police say Grubb then crossed the center line and collided with a semi driven by 64-year-old Joseph Wirthwein of Celestine, who was traveling eastbound on State Road 56.

Grubb complained of stomach pain and was transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Grubb’s car was a total loss and Wirthwein’s semi suffered $10,000 in damages. Grubb was cited for driving left of center.

Jasper Police were assisted at the scene by Memorial Hospital EMS.
