The Huntingburg Police Department was recently awarded a $2,500 grant from the Dubois County Substance Abuse Council.

The grant, which was awarded in the council’s Prevention/Education and Criminal Justice Services category, will be utilized to fund the purchase of a Federal Signal DTX In-Car Video System. This system, which will be installed in a patrol car, will assist in detecting, apprehending, and prosecuting of drivers that are impaired by alcohol or drug use. The video will capture driving behaviors, field sobriety tests done during traffic stops and will also capture statements of admission of drinking by drivers.

Huntingburg Assistant Chief of Police Ronnie Bowman says the impairment videos will also be used for training tools when officers go to standardized field sobriety testing classes administered for area law enforcement officials by the police department.
