A Jasper man is in jail today after his arrest in connection with an alleged rape early this morning.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says two females were in a car that sustained a flat tire just after 1 am this morning along Celestine Road North. Police say the women had started walking away from the broken-down vehicle when a pickup truck pulling a turkey-loading trailer arrived on the scene. In the truck was 24-year old Servando Escobedo and three other men who stopped to help.
A Sheriff’s detective said Escobedo and another man got out of the truck. While the other man began changing the tire, Escobedo allegedly took one of the women behind the trailer and sexually assaulted her.
Police said the women, who drove away after the tire was changed, later described the truck and the men to police, who located them at a turkey farm west of Celestine. All four men were brought in for questioning but three were released after telling police they had no knowledge that the assault had taken place.
Escobedo was booked into the Dubois County Security Center just after 7 this morning on a Class B felony count of rape and a misdemeanor count of possessing a false government identification.
