Brazilian Organist to Perform at St. Meinrad Archabbey Saturday

Later this week, Brazilian organist Cristiano Rizzotto Vidal Pessoa will perform at the St. Meinrad Archabbey Church.

The concert is set to start this Saturday, August 3rd at 3 pm central time at the church. Cristiano holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janiero, where he graduated as magna cum laude in 2010. In 2009, he was an exchange student in the United States courtesy of the Brazilian government’s Ministry of Education program.

Cristiano has performed as a concert pianist in several solo recitals and as a piano accompanist in several cities and states of Brazil since 2007. He was awarded second place at the XVIII ArtLivre National Piano Competition.

He returned to the United States in 2011 and earned a master’s degree in sacred music/organ from East Carolina University. He will pursue his doctorate at the American Organ Institute of the University of Oklahoma’s School of Music under the direction of Dr. John Schwandt.

The performance will include works from J.S. Bach, Gerald Near, and Louis-Claude Daquin among others as well as some of his own works. This will mark his second performance at St. Meinrad, as he previously performed there in 2012.

The concert is free and open to the public.
