Jasper Man Arrested in Connection to Previous Check Fraud Case

An investigation into fraudulently cashed checks at Freedom Bank in Jasper resulted in the arrest of a Jasper man yesterday.

Jasper Police say 66-year-old David Harvey of Jasper knowingly and intentionally cashed five different checks at Freedom Bank and knew that there were not David Harveysufficient funds in the account.

Harvey’s arrest is also tied to the investigation into the May 2nd arrests of Shawen Smith (alias Shawn Kinningham) and David Slaton on fraud charges. Slaton and Kinningham are currently in the Dubois County Security Center awaiting trial and face charges in other jurisdictions for similar fraud charges.

Harvey was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center. He faces five counts of defrauding a financial institution, which is a Class C felony, and five counts of check fraud, which is a Class D felony.
