Last night, the Northeast Dubois School Board approved the advertising of its 2014 budget. This will include the General Fund, Debt Service Fund, and Bus Replacement Fund among several others.
Northeast Dubois Superintendent Bill Hochgesang says the priority for the new budget will be finding new ways, including technology, to enhance learning in the district:
The new budget will be advertised on August 8th and 15th and will go before the county council at its August 26th meeting. The corporation will hold a public hearing on the budget on September 17th and the 2014 budget is set to be adopted at the October 15th meeting.
Also last night, Hochgesang and a couple of other board members gave a short presentation on what they had learned during the four day Langford Learning Conference which was held recently.
Hochgesang says the group learned its own system and how to implement change to benefit students going forward:
In other business last night, the board approved the hiring of Tara Rasche as the new librarian for Northeast Dubois High School. Rasche’s job description will also include the role of technology support specialist to help with iPad implementation in grades 7-12 this upcoming school year, a change that the board approved at last night’s meeting. Four new teaching assistants were also hired for the middle school.
Finally last night, the board approved sending some students to culinary arts and heavy machinery courses with the Lost River Valley Cooperative starting this upcoming school year. The corporation already belongs to the Patoka Valley Cooperative, but Hochgesang told the board that several students had expressed their interest in cooking and heavy machinery classes and the classes at Lost River offered those opportunities for students without joining the coop.
