One person was injured in an ATV crash late last week in Pike County.

Indiana Conservation Officers say 27-year-old Ryan Beadles of Hazelton was riding an ATV along Pike County Road 825 West just before 10 PM last Thursday evening when the accident occurred.

Conservation officers say as Beadles reached a turn in the road, he was unable to turn his ATV, causing the ATV to flip over. Beadles jumped from the ATV and was not injured. However, a passenger aboard the ATV, 34-year-old Shawn Staggs of Hazelton, was landed on by the ATV when it flipped. Staggs suffered injuries on his back and neck. He was transported to Deaconness Hospital in Evansville by AirEvac.

Pike County EMS, Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Union Fire Department, Petersburg Fire Department, and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to the scene.

Conservation officers say the investigation into the accident is ongoing. Officers say alcohol and excessive speed might be factors that contributed to the crash. The case will be turned over to the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office for further review upon completion of the conservation officers’ investigation.
