A short car chase in Crawford County on Friday night resulted in the driver being airlifted to a regional hospital as well as the death of a Harrison County woman.
Indiana State Police say the Marengo Town Marshal’s Office attempted to stop 44-year-old Robert Banet of Leavenworth for defective tail lights on his truck. Banet did not stop and a chase ensued. The chase lasted approximately one mile where Banet lost control of his truck and hit a tree.
A passenger in the truck, 56-year-old Jeannine Ferrell of Mauckport was pronounced dead at the scene. Banet was airlifted to University of Louisville hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Indiana State Police say the findings of their investigation will be turned over to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determining any charges once the investigation is completed.
The Crawford County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
