A two car accident in Jasper yesterday morning resulted in three people being injured and one person sent to the hospital.

Jasper Police say that just after 8:50 am yesterday morning, 65-year-old Susanne Harlen of Holland was northbound on Mulberry Street near Fifth Avenue when police say she failed to stop at the intersection. Harlen’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Kathy Schaeffer of Lamar who was headed eastbound on Fifth Avenue. Schaeffer’s car continued about 1/4th of a mile in a private driveway, hitting several trees before coming to rest.

Harlen complained of neck and back pain. She was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Schaeffer complained of chest pain, but refused treatment at the scene. A passenger in Schaeffer’s vehicle, 19-year-old Jamie Pate of Jasper, suffered right elbow and left knee abrasions and also refused treatment at the scene.

Both cars were considered total losses in this crash. A well at the Seth Fakes residence in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue suffered damage and a lawn at the Amanda Lee residence in the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue also suffered some minor damage.
