Loogootee Lady Lions Celebrating 40 Years of Volleyball

Tonight the Loogootee Lady Lions Volleyball program will celebrate 40-years of volleyball at the school.

On September 26, 1973 the school participated in it’s first ever volleyball match, a 15-2, 15-4 victory over the Shoals Jug Rox.

The Lady Lions of 1973 would finish their inaugural season with a 4 and 3 record under coach Linda Mehringer after losing in the first round of the Washington sectional.

Tonight nearly forty years later, before the Lady Lions take on their Martin County brethern Shoals, Mehringer and several members of that first ever team will be recognized for their part in LHS athletic lore on the court of Jack Butcher Arena.

This evening’s festivities will take place prior to tonight’s match with the Jug Rox which begins at 7:30.
