Martin County Deputy Prosecutor Resigns

Last week, Martin County Deputy Prosecutor Joseph Howell resigned his position for a possible run at political office.

In a news release, Howell stated that he had only planned to hold the office for six months time and that period expired on June 30th. He also stated that he accepted the job with the understanding that he would leave should he decide to run for Prosecutor or Circuit Court Judge. Labor Day is usually the time when campaigning for the next election cycle begins and the prosecutor’s office is on the table for the 2014 election.

Howell has been serving part-time as Deputy Prosecutor since January 1st. He also has a private law practice in Loogootee, which he opened back in 2011. Howell previously served as Martin County Circuit Court Judge for 18 years before he decided to not seek re-election back in 2010.
