A teen driver was airlifted to an Evansville hospital last night following an accident near Dubois.

Dubois County Sheriff’s deputies say the 16-year-old female driver, identified by deputies as Natalie Kern, was driving westbound on State Road 56 near Cuzco Road just before 9:45 pm last night when things began to go wrong with her vehicle.

Deputies say that Kern’s 2008 Kia SUV began to shake violently for an unknown reason. Kern told police she tried to slow down, which caused the vehicle to skid off of the north side of the highway, where it landed on its top.

Kern possibly suffered a broken leg and potential internal injuries according to sheriff’s deputies. She was taken to Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville for further treatment and evaluation. A passenger in the vehicle, Chandler Tinkle of Jasper, complained of head and neck pain and was also taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Dubois First Responders and Memorial Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.
