A water fowl workshop is set to be held in Pike County next month.
Sugar Ridge Fish and Wildlife Area in Winslow will be hosting a free workshop on waterfowl hunting on Saturday, October 5th. The focus of the event will be on hunting Canadian geese.
The material is geared towards novice waterfowl hunters, so parents will be welcome to bring children. There will also be a limited amount of information given on duck hunting at this event.
Department of Natural Resources waterfowl biologist Adam Phelps says Canadian geese are the most popular of the waterfowl being hunted and says they are the easiest to start with because they are easiest for people to identify.
Part of the workshop is set to be held outdoors and Phelps says decoys, blinds, and other equipment will be utilized in this part of the course. Other teaching points will include hunting regulations, waterfowl identification, equipment, and techniques. Fish and wildlife personnel will be available to answer questions and participants will learn how to hunt well with little equipment.
Those participating should bring a lawn chair and dress according to the weather as part of the workshop will be held outdoors. Registration is required and for more information or to register, you can call 789-2724.
