An accident along Jasper-Dubois Road involving a combine resulted in a Dubois woman being airlifted to an area hospital.

Dubois County Sheriff’s deputies were called to an accident in the 2800 block of Jasper-Dubois Road just before 6 pm on Friday evening. Sheriff’s deputies say 64-year-old Robert Rasche of Dubois was pulling out onto Jasper-Dubois Road with his combine to make a U-turn. At the same time, 36-year-old Diana Betz (also of Dubois) was headed southbound on Jasper-Dubois Road. Betz was blinded by the sun and didn’t see Rasche’s combine before running into the back of it according to sheriff’s deputies.

Betz had to be extricated from her car by Dubois Fire Department First Responders. She was taken to Memorial Hospital where a waiting helicopter life-flighted her to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville for treatment of a head injury. No word was available on her condition. Rasche was not injured in the crash. No charges were filed.

Sheriff’s deputies say the accident is still under investigation, though alcohol has been ruled out as a cause. Deputies say Betz did not attempt to stop her vehicle as there were no tire marks along the road near the scene that would suggest that she tried to stop. Both Rasche’s combine and Betz’s vehicle were totalled in this crash.

Memorial Hospital EMS also assisted at the scene.
