A special presentation concerning this past year’s 2nd running of the Heartland Half-Marathon and 5K run took place yesterday.
Yesterday morning at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center’s Phillip R. Dawkins Heart and Vascular Center, officials with DC Multisport presented a check for this year’s earnings from the Heartland Half Marathon and 5K. The total amount raised this year: $13,062.
DC Multisport president Michael Kern says things went better than expected as far as fundraising is concerned for this year’s event. He says a good race course and a date change for next year will allow the event to grow in the future:
Kern says over 700 people entered the event last year, but this year’s turnout was down to just over 600 runners. Kern says a number of people last year wanted to run the event last year as a ‘bucket list’ achievement rather than run in it every year, thus the drop off in attendance.
The Phillip R. Dawkins Heart and Vascular Center was the recipient of the proceeds from the event for the second year in a row. Memorial Hospital serves as the corporate sponsor for the Heartland Half-Marathon.
