EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Seven people have been taken to Evansville-area hospitals after a collision involving at least six vehicles on U.S. 41 just north of the city.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Maj. Rick Pace tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1aAwZ5A ) says the driver of a semitrailer may have been asleep or experiencing a medical episode when his rig rear-ended another semitrailer stopped at a traffic light and then careened into four other vehicles.

The crash happened about 1:45 p.m. Monday

Pace says one person suffered severe injuries.
