An accident in the vicinity of downtown Jasper sent one person to the hospital this morning.

Jasper Police say 54-year-old Mitchell Emmons and 32-year-old Brandon Evans (both of French Lick) were southbound along Newton Street and had stopped at the traffic light at the intersection with 9th Street just before 9 am this morning. Police say a third vehicle (driven by 35-year-old Trisha Eichmiller of French Lick) was heading southbound on Newton Street approaching the intersection with 9th Street. Eichmiller told police she tried to stop her vehicle, but couldn’t do so in time and her car ran into the back of Emmons’ car. The impact pushed Emmons’ car into the back of Evans’ car.

Evans complained of neck and back pain and was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment. Eichmiller and Emmons were not injured. Eichmiller’s vehicle sustained 7 thousand dollars in damages while Emmons’ car sustained 5 thousand dollars of damage and Evans’ car suffered 15 hundred dollars worth of damage. Eichmiller was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision.

A trooper from the Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.
