A former elected city official is set to run for county office this year.

Pat Dant, who once served as a councilman for the city of Washington, announced his intentions to seek the District 4 seat on the Daviess County Council in this election. The seat is currently held by Kenneth Soliday. Soliday will not be seeking re-election.

Dant is a life-long Daviess County resident and was the owner/operator of People’s Cleaners for 14 years. In addition to his time on the Washington City Council, Dant has worked as a jail administrator for the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department and served on the Washington Board of Public Works, Zoning Board, and the Community Corrections Board.

In a news release, Dant says he feels the time is right to get back into politics following the retirement of Soliday. He says his experience as a local business owner will help him to manage the county’s finances.

Dant and his wife, Claudia have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. All of them live in Daviess County.

Now, current county auditor Gail Doades previously had shown interest in running for the District 4 seat, but she decided against it. Doades is term-limited and cannot run for auditor again in this election.
