A Jasper resident is set to run for a US Congressional seat.
Tom Spangler has announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the Indiana 8th District Congressional seat. The seat is currently held by Republican Larry Bucshon of Newburgh. Bucshon has announced his intentions to run for re-election.
Spangler is an entrepreneur and he owns LUI Plus, a small business that is focused on the marketing and distribution of high quality commercial furniture. Spangler brought the company to Indiana from its original location in Baltimore, Maryland back in 2002. The company now has customers across the United States and in several foreign countries.
In a news release, Spangler says he is running because of the recklessness and irresponsibility of Congress over the last couple of years. He also pointed a finger at Bucshon and says he looks forward to telling voters about his plans to cut out of control spending in Washington while helping small businesses to create jobs in Indiana.
Spangler has been an ordained deacon for more than 25 years and currently serves as the director of his church’s outreach program. He is also a Sunday school teacher and assists with the youth programs at his church.
Spangler and his wife Penny currently reside in Jasper. They have 2 children and 6 grandchildren.
