An accident along the Jasper-Dubois Road yesterday left a Dubois woman injured.

Dubois County Sheriff’s deputies say 57-year-old Bonnie Heeke of Dubois was southbound along Jasper-Dubois Road just south of State Road 545 when she attempted to pass a slower vehicle. Heeke hit a patch of black ice while attempting to pass the vehicle, causing her car to overturn in the roadway. Her vehicle came to rest on its roof in a ditch on the west side of the roadway.

Heeke complained of head and neck pain and sheriff’s deputies say she had some visible head injuries. She was taken to Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. Deputies say Heeke’s vehicle was a total loss in this crash. The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital EMS, and a wrecker from Ruxer’s wrecker service also assisted.

In other accidents, sheriff’s deputies worked several slide off crashes yesterday morning due to black ice. One of those accidents resulted in a Jasper woman (54-year-old Sharon Stenftnagel) being taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of back pain. That accident also shut down Portersville Road for about 20 minutes for cleanup. No other injuries were reported in the other slide offs although one of them that happened along Schnellville Road resulted in a 20 minute closure of that road for cleanup.
