An accident along US 231 in Huntingburg sent 4 people to the hospital yesterday.
At about 3:30 pm, Huntingburg Police were called to a 3 vehicle accident along US 231 at the intersection with 19th Street. They say 36-year-old Jill Lau of Huntingburg was northbound along US 231 approaching the intersection with 19th Street when she failed to notice a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Jessamyn Woolsey of Greenville. Woolsey was stopped in the northbound lane trying to turn left onto 19th Street.
Lau’s vehicle then ran into the back of Woolsey’s vehicle, causing Woolsey’s vehicle to skid to the right before coming to rest facing southbound in the northbound lane. Lau’s vehicle then skidded into the southbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Randall Gibson of Loogootee. Lau’s vehicle then came to rest blocking the southbound lane of US 231 while Gibson’s vehicle was pushed onto a nearby berm.
Woolsey, 29-year-old Martin Munoz (who was a passenger in Woolsey’s vehicle), and Gibson were all taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of pain. Lau was later taken to the hospital by a friend. Damage to Lau’s vehicle was estimated at 26 thousand dollars while Woolsey’s car was totaled. Lau was cited for following too closely. US 231 was closed for about 1 hour while the accident scene was being cleaned up.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Huntingburg Fire Department, Dubois County Ambulance Service, and a wrecker from KARS wrecker service also assisted.
