Firefighters with the St. Henry Fire Department were kept busy with a field fire yesterday.

Just after 1:40 pm, they were called to a fully evolved field fire at the Drew Buening residence in the 4300 block of West 1200 South near Dale. St. Henry fire chief Steve Eckert says firefighters found a fully involved field fire with random brush piles near the residence burning. Eckert says the fire had already spread into the woods on the north side of the property.

Now this fire caused some problems for firefighters as Eckert says the ground was too soft to support fire trucks. Firefighters initially had to use hand tools, rakes, and a portable pump and hose to supply water from a nearby lake. A 4 by 4 tractor was then brought in to tow the department’s brush truck into the area where the fire was brought under control and eventually put out.

Eckert says about 3 and a half acres of grass and brush was burned in the fire. No other damage was reported.

The St. Henry department responded with 4 trucks and 16 men. They were on the scene for about 2 hours.
