1 Person Injured in Jasper Accident

An accident on Jasper’s south side resulted in 1 person suffering minor injuries.

Just before 1:40 yesterday afternoon, Jasper Police were called to the intersection of 5th and Newton Streets on the reported accident. Police say 34-year-old Sherry Escalera of Washington was southbound on Newton Street and tried to turn left to head eastbound on 5th Street. However, police say Escalera failed to see a northbound vehicle driven by 65-year-old Janice Stidd of Jasper. The two vehicles then collided in the intersection.

A passenger in Escalera’s vehicle (12-year-old Alisia Escalera of Washington) complained of neck pain. She was then treated for that injury. Damage was estimated at 5 thousand dollars for Stidd’s vehicle while Escalera’s vehicle sustained 25 hundred dollars worth of damage.

Escalera was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
