Memorial Hospital Offering First Aid Course

Jasper’s Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center is set to offer a basic first aid course later this month.

Medic First Aid with AED Refresher will be held on Tuesday July 29th from 8 to 11 am in the community classroom at Memorial’s South side Office in Jasper. The course is designed for use in business and industrial settings. Primary and secondary essential skills of patient care that are learned in initial training are reviewed as part of the course. Hospital officials say these skills allow for those who graduate from the class to function with 1 consistent set of priorities should an emergency arise.

The cost of the class is $40. Pre-registration is required and the class size is limited. For more information, you can call the Health and Wellness Department at 996-2399. You can also go to and click on “Classes and Events.”

Hospital officials have also announced details of the First Friday health screening for the month of August. The screenings are coming up on Friday August 1st. They will be done from 7 to 9 am at Memorial’s South side office.

Folks need to be 18 or older to participate in the screenings. The screenings will feature cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) and blood glucose checked via finger stick. A 12-hour fast is also required prior to the screenings. You may drink water or take any prescribed medications.

The cost is 25 dollars and can be paid at the screenings. Screenings take 15 minutes and pre-registration is required.
