This weekend marks the start of the Pike County 4H Fair.
This year’s fair is highlighted by several new events and performers. 14-year-old Payton Lynn will be highlighting the Sunday opening ceremony with a new album premiere performance. Lynn will be singing the title song “I Smell Smoke” along with various other cover songs. The group Fighting for a Chance will also be performing Sunday evening.
Two new events will also take place this year. The first of those is Swamp Fever Racing. The new event is a mix of drag racing, tractor pulls, and demolition derbies in a mud arena. Various classes of trucks, jeeps, and mud-racing vehicles will try to get through a large mud pit. That race is set for Saturday evening.
The second new event to take place will be the Amazing Race to End Hunger. That event is based off of the TV show Amazing Race. The concept will then be used to raise money and food donations for Petersburg-based Somebody’s Place. 4 person teams will compete across 6 competition stations. Some of the stations include a food weighing station and one where the contestants eat baby food.
The Pike County 4H Fair officially gets underway at 5 o’clock Sunday evening with the parade along Main Street in Petersburg. The Pike County fair pageants are set to take place starting Monday evening. The Little Miss and Mister pageant begins at 7 pm with the Junior Miss pageant to follow at 8:30. The pageants continue Tuesday night when the Miss Teen Pike County and Miss Pike County will be crowned.
The fair runs through next Saturday, July 26th.
