Jasper residents will now get the chance to celebrate the city’s standing as one of America’s Best Communities.
The Redevelop Old Jasper Action Coalition (ROJAC) and the ABC Jasper committee are hosting an ice cream social on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm. The celebration will take place at the Hoosier Desk building at Third and Mill Streets.
Libby’s Ice Cream and Dad’s Root Beer will be on hand to serve free root beer floats from 5:30 to 6 as part of National Root Beer Float Day. As part of the event, members of the ABC Jasper team and others will present short updates on the America’s Best Communities contest, ROJAC’s efforts and the Downtown Revitalization part of the Downtown Riverfront Master Plan. Topics will include work at the Astra Theater and the proposed Jasper Cultural Center, which would utilize the former Hoosier Desk building as a shared space with the Jasper Public Library and the Jasper Arts Center.
Public input will be welcomed for future planning at Thursday’s meeting. Children are welcome to attend, but must have a guardian present. Children 3 years and older will have the option of going to a supervised art station that will be set up for use during the presentations.
