Elbert Donald “Don” Burton, age 82, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 12:52 p.m., on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born November 28, 1932 in Owensboro, Kentucky, to Elbert B. and Edna C. (Jones) Burton. He married Ida Catherine Harker on September 7, 1955 at St. John’s Church in Boone Township. Don was owner of Burton’s Cafeteria, Burton’s Catering and Burton’s Caper House. He also worked as a Dubois County dumpster site attendant. Don was a member of the Holland American Legion, lifetime member of the Southern Indiana Leathernecks, and the Indiana National Guard. He served in Japan during the Korean War as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and barbecuing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Catherine “Cathy” Burton, who passed away July 31, 2008; and one granddaughter, Leah Burton.

Funeral services for Don Burton will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Memorial Detail and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Friday. A Marine Corps League memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. Clara F. Schnieders, 95, of Ferdinand, passed away, Saturday, December 14th at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. Clara was born, January 1, 1920 in Ferdinand to Edward and Mary (Heilers) Altmeyer. She married Ralph Schnieders on May 2, of 1946 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. He passed away on January 6, 1953. Clara was a factory worker at Aristocraft and Ferdinand Furniture. She also cleaned offices at OFS. Clara was a member of St. Ferdinand Church Parish. She enjoyed praying the rosary during long walks.
Clara is survived by four daughters;
Mary Rasche and husband Jim of Jasper, Jane Potter of Ferdinand, Lori Schnieders of Ferdinand, Ruth Selzer and husband Allen of Chrisney;
one son, Ralph (Buck) Schnieders of Ferdinand;
one sister, Evelyn Brockman of Ferdinand;
seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Clara was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Kay in infancy; two sisters, Agnes Schnieders and Margaret Spayd; one granddaughter, Emily Selzer.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8:00 PM and Wednesday from 7-9:30 AM at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM in St. Ferdinand Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Connie Lynn Houchin, age 56, of Ferdinand, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
She was born December 27, 1958 in Princeton, Indiana, to Burl Lewis and Doris Aline (Tumey) Hedge. She married Robert Houchin on February 22, 2000. Connie was employed at Farbest Foods. She loved gardening and photography. She was preceded in death by her father, Burl Hedge; her stepmother, Anna Uppencamp; her adopted father, Henry Uppencamp; and one brother, Paul Monroe.

Wanda J. Denton, age 82, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 12:51 a.m., on Monday, March 9, 2015 at The Timbers of Jasper in Jasper, Indiana.
She was born October 27, 1932 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Jesse and Maggie Claire (Stapleton) Hall. Wanda was employed in local woodworking factories for 40 years and then after retirement she worked at Walmart in Jasper for 10 years. She enjoyed cooking and baking; and was an avid Tony Stewart NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by her parents.
