Florence E. Seifert, age 95 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 1:58 a.m. on Tuesday (April 7, 2015) in Jasper.

Florence was born on October 20, 1919 in Jasper, Indiana to August and Catherine (Streicher) Schroeder.  She married Erwin Seifert on October 7, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN.  He preceded her in death on January 9, 2015.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and their St. Ann’s Society.

Funeral services for Florence E. Seifert will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 11, 2015) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Schnell, Hilbert1

Hilbert Herman Schnell, age 95, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Sunday (April 5, 2015) at home.

Hilbert was born on May 3, 1919 to Jacob and Thresia (Hauser) Schnell.  He married Bernadine Hopf on May 7, 1949 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Hilbert was an Army veteran who served in WWII.  He spent one and a half years in South America guarding the Panama Canal.  He then served in combat duty in the countries of England, France, Belgium, and Germany through the end of the war. He was a witness to the concentration camps in Germany.

Hilbert retired from JOFCO where he had worked for over 38 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and their Holy Name Society.   He was a member of the Jasper VFW Post #673.

He enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, building wood furniture, and he prided himself on his ability to fix things.  He also enjoyed music and dancing at the VFW.

Funeral services for Hilbert H. Schnell will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (April 10, 2015) at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.   The Jasper VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday (April 9, 2015) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.  The Holy Family Parish will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.

Rosemary Freson, age 85, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 12:50 p.m., onWednesday, April 1, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born December 6, 1929 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Hobart and Minnie (Hollander) Chappell.  She married Herb J. Freson on November 30, 1974 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.  Rosemary was a homemaker and had worked as a clerk at Yogi’s Liquor Store.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366 Ladies Auxiliary; was an avid fisherman; enjoyed attending yard sales; and was an enthusiastic collector of anything related to frogs, fish and hummingbirds.  Rosemary was preceded in death by:  her parents; one sister, Jewel Jenkins; three brothers, Bob Chappell, Jack Chappell and Hobart Chappell; and by one grandson.

William R. Berg, age 90 of  Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday (April 2, 2015) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.

William was born in Troy, Indiana on October 30, 1924 to Gilbert and Marie (Grass) Berg.  He married Viola Voegerl on September 13, 1947 in St. Anthony Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death on December 24, 2011.

William retired from Kimball International after many years of service.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

He enjoyed working outdoors,  animals and bird watching, watching westerns, and being with friends and family.

Thomas “Chris” Shreve, 72, Santa Claus, died Sunday, March 29, 2015, in Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born in Dearborn, Mich., on July 26, 1942, to Tom and Marian (Potter) Shreve. He married Gloria W. Wollenmann on July 26, 1975, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria W. Shreve; a host daughter, Jeanette Cepedes-Dufrene and husband Andre of New Orleans, La.; a stepsister, Susan Shreve of Michigan; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shreve was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus. He retired from Abbott Laboratory in logistic international management. He graduated from University of Detroit High School, School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in government intelligence.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 10th, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial of the cremains will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday, April 10th, at the church.

Fleck, Marcella

Marcella (Sally) Fleck, age 91 of Ireland, passed away at 7:00 p.m. Monday, (March 30, 2015), at her home.

She was born in Ireland, Indiana on May 22, 1923 to Andrew and Fidelia (Hurst) Goeppner. She married Henry L. Fleck on October 19, 1950 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana.  He preceded her in death on November 3, 2009.

Marcella retired from the Ireland Elementary School where she was a supervisor at cafeteria for thirty years also was a cook at the Jasper Knights of Columbus and the Chicken Place in Ireland.

She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

She enjoyed gardening and quilting and applique.

Lehr, Gloria

Gloria J. Lehr, age 66, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Monday (March 30, 2015) at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.

Gloria was born on August 1, 1948 in Washington, Indiana to Ray and Thresia (Marks) Lehr.

Gloria was a 1966 graduate of Jasper High School.

She worked as a Master Scheduler at Masterbrand Cabinets for 40 years, from 1969-2009.

She was a member of the Women of the Jasper Moose.

She loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana Hoosiers fan.  She also enjoyed playing pickleball, bingo, golfing, bowling, traveling, going to casinos, and spending time with family and friends.
