WBDC and WJTS-TV are members of the Indiana College Success Coalition of Dubois County. General Manager William Potter participates in College Success Coalition and sits on the advisory board for the Jasper High School Media Advisory Committee guiding the Radio and TV Programs at Jasper High School. Through the coalition, WBDC and WJTS offer internships, job shadow activities and promotion of CSC events.

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:
Students from Jasper Middle School and Holy Family/Precious Blood Middle School Junior Achievement program spent the school day at WBDC and WAXL Radio learning about broadcast radio. A tour of the stations and discussions of career opportunities in broadcast were given to the students (10 students). The students were given hands on training in various broadcast applications.

WBDC-FM/WAXL-FM/WRZR-FM(lma)/WJTS-TV hosted a client from Blue River Services, a community based organization helping those with disabilities learn work place skills. The client was a part of the Blue River Services Job Shadow Program. The client worked with and observed the DCBi traffic and clerical department. This work was chosen by the client. The BRS client spent the day at the stations and was shown workplace skills and broadcast career opportunities.

As a new News Director, Ms. Davis was not only given the opportunity to sharpen her reporting skills but was also given the opportunity to develop skills as a director of the news department with respect to equality and discrimination.

DCBroadcasting Companies (including WBDC, WAXL, WRZR lma, and WJTS-TV) President/Owner, Paul KNies, attended the IBA Job Fair Wednesday September 19, 2018 in Carmel, Indiana. Mr. Knieshas the say in the hiring of all employees of DCBroadcasting, Inc. including WBDC, WAXL, WRZR lma, and WJTS-TV. Mr. Torrance has the responsibility of hiring at the Madison, IN Employment Cluster and job fair is a training opportunity for Mr. Torrance in DCBi management. In addition to having a booth at the job fair, many applications were accepted and on-site interviews were held. WBDC, WAXL, and WRZR lma each aired 36 thirty-second announcements and WJTS-TV aired 36 thirty-second announcements promoting the job fair and encouraging participation by job seekers and those interested in broadcast careers.

WBDC-FM/WAXL-FM/WRZR-FM(lma)/WJTS-TV hosted two students from Northeast Dubois High School and one student from Jasper High School. The students were a part of the NEDHS and JHS Job Shadow Program. The students were at the Radio Station studios for WBDC, WAXL, WRZR (lma) and WJTS TV with Brian Schwenk WBDC/WAXL, Ty Hunter, WBDC and Zach Reuber of WJTS TVa dn the radio stations. They were taught workplace skills and broadcast career opportunities and the education needed. The students were given a chance to see how skills learned in school relate to the workplace with emphasis placed on broadcast.

Purdue Extension Dubois County and Spencer County Youth Development Media Spark Club

Brief Description Of Activity And Station Participation:
WBDC-FM / WAXL-FM and WJTS-TV 18 hosted 5 youths as part of the 4H Youth Development programming of the Purdue Extension system. The Media Spark Club is a 6 hour educational program for youth in ages 10 to 18 hosted and run by WBDC/WAXL/WJTS focused on the broadcast industry. The 4H members were taught workplace skills and broadcast career opportunities and the education needed. The youths produced a PSA for 4H, hosted and recorded a 10 minute TV interview program known as WJTS “in.form” which was aired on WJTS TV 18 at least twice as part of the WJTS Local News, and they selected music and DJ’d a section of the WBDC on-air board.
